Our calf leather is full-grain vegetable-tanned, meaning it is uncorrected and we utilize organic material such as bark, leaves, and branches to transfer their natural tannin to our leather. As any uncorrected leather, it may show natural fibers which make every product as unique as the hide that was used to make it. Vegetable-tanned leather is soft and requires little to no break-in period!
Caring for Calf Skin
After each use, we recommend gently brushing with a horsehair brush to remove any dirt. Periodic conditioning is required, for which we recommend Bick 4, Venetian Shoe Cream or Saphir Renovateur, depending on your budget. Additionally, pigments will need to be re-introduced to the leather over time. For this process, we recommend Saphir Medaille D’Or Pommadier Cream, Burgol Creme Polish or Tarrago Cream Polish. After applying the cream in a circular motion, allow 10 minutes for the cream to be absorbed by the leather, then buff out with a horsehair brush until a soft shine is achieved.
Windy Pull-Up Leather
Our Windy Pull-Up Leather is a very smooth, waxy leather with a very uniform grain similar to Chromexcel. By “pull-up” we mean that when the leather is flexed or bent, the waxes and greases infused in the leather are brought to the surface creating tonal effects in the leather. In other words, this type of leather reacts to its environment, which makes it very popular.
The waxy character of the leather gives it a natural soft shine and it is relatively low-maintenance. As it ages, it grows in character making it the perfect leather for our boot and shoe designs!
Tornado Pull-Up Leather
A more distressed version of our Windy pull-up leather characterized for having a soft, smooth, waxy feel. We achieve this by tumbling our leather in our proprietary drums. This leather has a soft sheen produced naturally due to the high concentration of waxes infused during the tanning process. By “pull-up” we mean that when the leather is flexed or bent, the waxes and greases infused in the leather are brought to the surface creating tonal effects in the leather. In other words, this type of leather reacts to its environment, which makes it very popular.
Our Tornado pull-up leather offers a wider range of grain variation than the Windy pull-up. We use our Tornado leather as an artistic expression. We select the smoother cuts for areas that will experience flexing and stress, such as the vamp of the shoe or boot. Cuts with more pronounced, distressed grain are only used for areas of the shoe that do not experience flexing such as the shaft, counter of the shoe.

Caring for Windy/Tornado Leather:
Both our Windy and Tornado Pull-Up leathers are relatively low-maintenance. Most of the time, a quick brushing with a horsehair brush will remove any undesired dirt as well as redistribute some of the waxes and greases in the leather, giving it a nice soft shine.
For deeper cleaning and conditioning, we recommend applying either Bick 4, Venetian Shoe Cream or Saphir Renovateur (listed from least to most expensive), depending on your budget and preference. These products may be applied with your hand or with a clean cotton cloth in a circular motion. Make sure to give the leather enough time to absorb the conditioner and to dry before brushing again. We like these products because they do not darken the leather and yet penetrate the leather to nourish and serve as a gentle protective agent against moisture. While these products do not make the leather water-proof, they do slow down the process of water saturation.
